The CHD Coalition has funded nearly $1 Million in CHD research across 20 different studies from 6 hospitals located in New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston. Why is funding medical research so important? While a person with a CHD can have their defect surgically repaired, the chronic disease associated with the heart condition cannot be cured. Innovative research and emerging medical technologies offer an enormous impact on the survival and long-term care of individuals affected by CHD.

The following article is an example of amazing research. Today, heart valves become dysfunctional and require replacement because they don’t grow with the child. These children will often need to endure multiple open-heart surgeries until a mechanical valve is implanted in adulthood. Research is proposing a future where values can grow with the child!
